Hunder

Hunder

Hunderman, a small village 10 km uphill from Kargil town, lies precariously close to the Indo-Pak border. This nondescript village has borne the brunt of four wars, changing hands between India and Pakistan. From 1949 to 1965, it belonged to Pakistan, before becoming a no-man's land during the 1965 India-Pakistan war. Months later, it was reclaimed by India in 1971. The village has faced immense trauma and atrocities due to its strategic location. Despite its tumultuous past, Hunderman remains a testament to resilience. Its proximity to the border has made it a witness to the devastating effects of war, yet it stands as a symbol of hope and determination. The village's complex history serves as a reminder of the human cost of conflict and the importance of peace. Today, Hunderman is a part of India, its residents living with the scars of war.
