Tosa Maidan

Tosa Maidan

Tosa Maidan, a picturesque meadow in Khag tehsil, Budgam district, Jammu and Kashmir, boasts a rich historical background and breathtaking natural beauty. Nestled in the Himalayan mountains, this expansive meadow is bounded by dense forests and situated approximately 10 kilometers from Khag. To reach Tosa Maidan, one must traverse the upper mountain reaches of Drang, Zakhora, and other small villages.
Legend has it that Tosa Maidan was a popular pasture among shepherds from neighboring countries in ancient times. The Mughals also used this route to travel to Poonch, constructing a seven-storeyed building called Dam-Dam along the way. The Basmai Gali pass (13,000 ft) leads to Tosa Maidan, while the Poonch Gali pass on its right side connects to the Poonch valley. This pass was considered the safest, easiest, and nearest route to Punjab in ancient times. Additionally, a path from Tosa Maidan leads to Nilnag.
Tosa Maidan, the largest pasture in its surroundings, stretches 3 miles in length and 1.5 miles in width. Towering deodars encircle the meadow, presenting a stunning green carpet during summer. The Gujjar community and shepherds with their grazing sheep create a captivating scene, while the fragrance of wildflowers refreshes the environment
