Poonch Fort

Standing proudly for over 255 years, Poonch Fort is an iconic symbol of the district's rich history and cultural heritage. This magnificent structure, spanning an area of 7535 square meters, is perched atop a hill, adding to the majesty of Poonch city. Founded by Raja Abdul Razak Khan in 1701 AD, the fort was later built by Raja Rustam Khan in 1779 AD, after whom Poonch was also known as "Rustam Nagar".
Throughout its storied past, Poonch Fort has borne witness to the golden periods of rule under Maharaja Ranjit Singh, Raja Moti Singh, and Raja Baldev Singh. Today, it remains a prime attraction for tourists, drawing them in with its historical significance and architectural grandeur. This fort is a treasured legacy of Poonch District, a testament to its enduring heritage."
