Bungus Valley

Bungus Valley

Tucked away in the Trans-Himalayan region, Bungus Valley is a relatively unexplored area of Kashmir, teeming with vast tourism potential. This unique ecological haven boasts a diverse mountain biome, comprising grasslands, flora, and Taiga or Coniferous forests. Located in the northern part of Kupwara district, within the Handwara sub-district, the valley lies at an altitude of approximately 10,000 feet above sea level.
Spanning an estimated 300 square kilometers (20x15km), the principal valley, locally known as Bodh Bangus (Big Bangus), is a linear elliptical bowl aligned along the east-west axis. The valley is surrounded by the majestic Rajwar and Mawar mountains in the east, Shamasbury and Dajlungun Mountains in the west, and Chowkibal and Karnah Guli in the north. A smaller valley, Lokut Bangus (Small Bangus), lies on the north-eastern side of the main valley.
Both valleys boast level green meadows, surrounded by low-lying mountains covered with dense Coniferous forests (budloo) and a gentle stream flowing through them. This hidden gem of Kashmir offers a serene and breathtaking experience, waiting to be explored and cherished by nature lovers and adventure seekers alike.
