Dachigam National Park

Dachigam National Park

located 22 km from Srinagar, covers 141 sq km in the Zabarwan Range of the western Himalayas. The park's name means "ten villages," commemorating the villages relocated for its formation. Established in 1910 to ensure Srinagar's water supply, it was declared a National Park in 1981. The park's terrain varies greatly, with uneven topography, grasslands, rocky outcrops, and cliffs. The Marsar lake and Dagwan river are notable features, supplying water to Srinagar. Dachigam is home to various species, including the hangul (Kashmir stag), snow leopard, musk deer, and Himalayan black bear. The park's forests consist of coniferous and broadleaf species, with alpine pastures, meadows, and scrub vegetation. The grasslands and meadows are covered with colorful flowers, except in harsh winters. The park's diverse landscape and wildlife make it a unique and protected area.
