Hunderman

Hunderman

Tucked away in the mountains, just 10 km uphill from Kargil town, lies the small village of Hunderman. Its unassuming presence belies a complex history, having found itself at the epicenter of conflicts between India and Pakistan. This border village has borne witness to four wars and has been a prized possession for both nations vying for control.
Hunderman's tumultuous past saw it change hands from Pakistan to no-man's land in 1965, during the India-Pakistan war. The village remained in limbo for several months before finally being captured by India in 1971. Since then, it has remained an integral part of Indian territory, albeit with scars from its past.
Despite its proximity to the Indo-Pak border, Hunderman stands as a testament to resilience, its residents having faced unimaginable hardships and trauma inflicted by the wars. Their stories serve as a poignant reminder of the human cost of conflict and the importance of peace.
