Rezang La (war memorial 1962 )

Rechin La, also known as Rezang La, is a mountain pass on the Line of Actual Control between Indian-administered Ladakh and Chinese-administered Spanggur Lake basin. The pass is located on the watershed ridge of the Chushul Valley. The area is disputed, with China claiming the ridge as the boundary and India's claim line further east. On November 18, 1962, the Charlie Company of the 13 Kumaon Battalion, led by Maj. Shaitan Singh, fought a Chinese attack at Rezang La Pass. The company of 120 soldiers suffered heavy casualties, with 110 martyred in the attack. This battle is remembered as a symbol of bravery and sacrifice in the face of overwhelming odds. The pass remains a strategic location, with ongoing tensions between India and China over the disputed border. The incident is a significant part of Indian military history and a testament to the valor of its soldiers.
