Nundkol Lake or Nandi Kund

Nundkol Lake, also known as Nund Kol, Nandi Kund, or Kalodaka Lake, is a pristine oligotrophic alpine lake situated in the picturesque Bandipora district of Kashmir Valley, Jammu and Kashmir, India. This sacred lake holds great significance for Hindus, who believe it to be the birthplace of Nandi, the son of sage Shilad. According to legend, Shilad's rigorous penance near the lake led to Shiva's permanent residence there. The lake's unique coloration is said to symbolize the divine presence, with the inner blue hue representing Shiva and the outer light green portion representing Nandi. Locals also worship Shiva by the name Nandisa, further emphasizing the lake's spiritual importance.
