Tso Moriri

Tso Moriri

Tucked away in the breathtakingly beautiful Rupshu Valley, Tso Moriri Lake is a serene and picturesque destination that will leave you spellbound. Located less than 250 kilometers southeast of Leh, this high-altitude lake is nestled among lofty mountains at an elevation of approximately 4,000 meters above sea level.
Stretching 29 kilometers in length and up to 8 kilometers in width, Tso Moriri is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts, attracting migratory birds, marmots, and the elusive Tibetan wolves. As the largest high-altitude lake entirely within Indian Territory, it's a sacred and tranquil oasis in the Changthang region of Ladakh.
Part of the Tsomoriri Wetland Conservation Reserve and a Ramsar site, this stunning lake boasts an array of flora and fauna. However, due to its proximity to the Line of Actual Control, an Inner Line Permit is required to visit this natural wonder.
As you gaze upon Tso Moriri's mesmerizing blue hues, set against a picturesque landscape, you'll be struck by its romantic and breathtaking beauty. Yet, be aware that the harsh climate and high altitude demand careful planning to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience.
From January to March, the lake remains frozen, with extreme cold and limited accommodation options. As the ice melts in April, the lake transforms into a kaleidoscope of blue shades, making May to August the peak tourist season. Though less crowded than Pangong Tso, Tso Moriri offers an unparalleled experience for those willing to venture off the beaten path."
