Bawa Jitto Temple Jhiri

Bawa Jitto Temple Jhiri

Located approximately 20 kilometers from Jammu, off the Jammu-Akhnoor highway, Jhiri is a village with a rich cultural heritage. Every year, during the Karthik Purnima (late autumn full moon) in late October and early November, the centuries-old Jhiri Mela is held to commemorate the martyrdom of Baba Jittoo, a courageous farmer who sacrificed his life about 500 years ago in protest against the oppressive demands of the local zamindar.
This iconic fair attracts hundreds of thousands of devotees who flock to the village to pay tribute to Baba Jittoo's bravery and selflessness. The Jhiri Mela is a testament to the village's enduring spirit and its people's unwavering dedication to their heritage and traditions."
