Peer Kho cave temple

Peer Kho cave temple

During the reign of Raja Biram Dev of Jammu (1454-1495), a renowned mendicant, Jogi Guru Garib Nath, of the Guru Gorakh Nath order, arrived in Jammu and took residence at Peer Kho. The term "Kho" means "cave" in the local dialect, and over time, the cave came to be known as Peer-i-Kho. According to legend, this cave is also referred to as Jamwant Gufa, as it is believed to be the meditation site of Jamwant, the bear hero from the Ramayana.
A sacred Shivlinga is enshrined within the cave, attracting devotees in large numbers on auspicious days such as Puranmashi, Amavasya, Ekadashi, and Shivratri. Located on Circular Road, just 2 kilometers from Raghunath Bazar, this historic temple is a significant spiritual destination for those seeking solace and enlightenment.
