Phyang Monastery

Phyang Monastery, located 17 km west of Leh, Ladakh, was built in the 16th century and introduced the Degungpa teachings of 'Skyob Jigsten Gonbo' to the region. The monastery, belonging to the Red Hat Sect of Buddhism, houses 50 monks and features hundreds of wooden and bronze statues of Buddhist deities. The complex includes the Phyang Museum, showcasing Chinese, Tibetan, and Mongolian firearms and weapons, and a 900-year-old museum with idols, thangkas, and artifacts. The monastery hosts the Gang-Sngon Tsedup festival and sacred dances throughout the year. Phyang Lake, nearby, adds to the attraction. The monastery's shrines feature exquisite wall paintings, and the complex serves as a significant cultural and spiritual hub in Ladakh. With its rich history, stunning architecture, and vibrant festivals, Phyang Monastery is a must-visit destination for tourists and spiritual seekers.
