Jia Pota ghat Akhnoor

Location: On the right bank of the Chenab river in Akhnoor
Name: Derived from the Jio Pota tree (Putranjiva roxburghii) under which the coronation ceremony of Maharaja Gulab Singh took place
Historical significance: Considered the crowning glory of the ancient town of Akhnoor, it is the place where Maharaja Ranjit Singh of Punjab crowned General Gulab Singh as the Raja of Jammu in 1822
Importance: This event marked the first step towards the founding of the modern Jammu and Kashmir kingdom
Current status: To be developed as a religious tourism destination to promote pilgrim tourism in the region
