The temple's construction dates back to around 200 CE during the reign of Ashoka and was further developed by King Lalitaditya in the 8th century. Built from massive grey limestone boulders, the structure showcases exceptional craftsmanship. The temple compound was originally fortified by an 11-foot wall constructed with large boulders bound by lime plaster.
